Lisa Eurgain Taylor’s First Major Solo Exhibition at Oriel Môn: ‘Between Man and Earth’

Posted on 5 February 2020

This year Lisa Eurgain Taylor will be showcasing her largest ever solo exhibition at Oriel Môn.

The launch of this long anticipated exhibition will be on Saturday 7th of March at 12.00pm.  The exhibition will be opened by actress and author Ceri Lloyd.

Since graduating from Wimbledon College of Art in 2013, Lisa has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions – including Paris, Rome and London.  Her paintings exist somewhere between reality and fantasy.  They are imaginary, otherworldly and mystic places, but have been inspired by the striking mountains of Snowdonia.  Lisa is influenced by nature and the unique landscape that surrounds her.

Traditional hymns have always caught her imagination and the hope that they convey has a strong influence on her work.  Lleuwen Steffan’s songs are now recognized as contemporary hymns and therefore Lisa is delighted to quote parts of the lyrics from the song, ‘Mountains’, as titles for some of the paintings, alongside quotes from traditional hymns.

‘Mountains’ has truly inspired her and she has listened to the song several times whilst working on this series.  She can relate to the song, especially as she remembers the strong longing she felt for the mountains and countryside whilst living in London.  It fits in perfectly with her feelings and the ideas behind her work – the idea that sometimes we have to go away and return again to notice our striking mountains; and that they will eternally protect us and will wait for us, even though we sometimes take them for granted.

Her exhibition at Oriel Môn features pure and enchanting landscapes set in the distant past, untouched by Man.  The battle ‘Between Man and Earth’ has reached a critical point, but the intense light in the painting conveys the hope that we as people will take care of the earth and of each other.  ‘Between Man and Earth’ also makes us think of everything that exists between the two: magic, spirt and soul – things that are far more powerful than us.

Lisa stated, “I am truly grateful for the opportunity to exhibit at Oriel Môn.  Since graduating from Wimbledon College of Art (UAL) and gaining confidence in my artwork, exhibiting at Oriel Môn has been a dream and goal for me to work towards.

The gallery is very close to my heart as it is located just a stone’s throw away from my home and studio in Rhosmeirch, and a place where I frequently visited ever since I can remember.  It is also one of Wales’ most prestigious galleries, and it will be a privilege to exhibit there.

This is the biggest exhibition I have ever worked on.  It has been a challenge to create so much work to fill the space but I have enjoyed every second.  I love working on a large scale and so it’s great to have the opportunity to display huge triptychs in the exhibition.  I hope the exhibition allows people to escape from today’s intense world and will remind people not to take our beautiful planet for granted”

Nicola Gibson, Visitor Experience Manager at Oriel Môn said “Lisa is familiar to all of us at the Oriel, being a local girl from literally ‘up the road’!  We as staff have followed her career very closely from the beginning and are very proud of how successful she has become as a young artist, not just locally but Internationally also.  We are thrilled to be able to showcase her amazing talent in this well- deserved major solo exhibition”.

Lisa’s exhibition ‘Between Man and Earth’ runs from the 7th of March until the 19th of April.  The Oriel is open daily from 10.00am until 5.00pm and admission is free.  For further information please contact:-  01248 724444 / oriel@ynysmon.llyw.cymru / www.orielynysmon.info
