Become a Dementia Friendly Community
The aim of a Dementia Friendly Community (DFC) is to ensure that those living with dementia feel understood, valued, respected, and supported to live independently for as long as possible. It is important that people living with dementia feel a part of their community and are empowered to continue to contribute with confidence.
Considerations should include:
- People: interaction, communication and supporting those living with dementia and their carers.
- Place: navigation, accessibility, and overcoming environmental barriers to allow people to enjoy and have a positive experience of both public and private spaces.
- Process: organisational procedures, systems, and infrastructure. Processes can enable, as well as create barriers for people and places in supporting individuals living with dementia in the community.
