Pub issued Covid-19 Premises Improvement Notice over Euro 2020 breaches

Posted on 18 June 2021

Isle of Anglesey County Council has issued a Premises Improvement Notice under The Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) Regulations after a local pub breached safety rules.

The Premises Improvement Notice came after checks were carried out at several pubs by Public Protection Officers and North Wales Police on the day of Wales’ first Euro 2020 group football match against Switzerland (Saturday 12 June).

A joint inspection found a number of breaches at Tafarn Tŷ Gwyn, Llanfairpwll, which failed to adequately minimise the risk of exposure to Coronavirus at the premises for both customers and staff.

Breaches included failing to

  • collect sufficient track and trace information
  • take reasonable measures to ensure customers adhere to social distancing
  • take reasonable measures to ensure customers were seated when consuming food or drink and allowing ordering and serving at the bar
  • take reasonable measures to ensure customers wore face coverings when inside the premises (other than when seated at a table)
  • take reasonable measures to ensure controlled entry to the premises
  • provide adequate hand washing facilities in the customer toilets

Chief Public Protection Officer, Les Pursglove, said, “The majority of licensed premises on Anglesey continue to work extremely hard to keep their customers, staff and communities safe by complying with the Covid-19 regulations.

“Unfortunately, this pub has fallen short of the regulations, which has resulted in an Improvement Notice being served. The pub will now be monitored to ensure appropriate measures are put in place.”

He added, “We fully appreciate that these remain uncertain times for businesses and our officers are on-hand to offer advice and guidance if required. We will continue to work with the Licensees to support them in making improvements to keep everyone safe.”

Premises not adhering to Covid-19 regulations or failing to put safety measures in place could face further action including being issued with a Closure Notice.
