Phased reopening of Môn Actif leisure centres begins next week

Posted on 7 August 2020

Isle of Anglesey County Council is pleased to announce that Amlwch, Holyhead and Plas Arthur (Llangefni) Leisure Centres will be reopening for members from Tuesday, 11 August.

David Hughes Leisure Centre, in Menai Bridge, will reopen to members on Monday, 17 August, after refurbishment work to the floor is completed.

A phased reopening of the leisure centres will see our fitness rooms and fitness classes reopen first. Swimming pools are set to reopen to members on Monday, 17 August for public swimming and swimming club sessions.

Available equipment within the fitness rooms will be reduced to ensure that social distancing between members is maintained, while all fitness classes will be relocated to the sports hall. Staff will be adopting a new, enhanced cleaning regime, and customers will be asked to wipe down the equipment that they have used. Hand sanitiser will be available throughout leisure centres. Visitors will also be required to observe strict social distancing at all leisure centres.

Commercial Leisure Manager Gerallt Roberts explained, “Ensuring our staff and customers remain safe is our number one priority and we have carefully considered the measures required to ensure the centres are able to reopen as safely as possible.

“By, initially, giving our members the opportunity to resume activities and exercise at their local leisure centres, we will go a long way towards maintaining the health of our local communities. We’d like to thank our members for their patience and support over the past four months and we look forward to welcoming you back to the centres."

The fitness room and fitness class timetable will look different when the centres reopen. Members will be required to pre-book their hourly fitness room sessions and classes online. Members who wish to use the facilities will need to pre-book their sessions via the online booking website from 9.30am on 07/08/2020.

Initially, to safely manage the numbers that are using our centres, only Môn Actif members will be able to use and pre-book the facilities. We will provide updates on our website and social media channels when the centres reopen to non-members.

Please note: Unfortunately, the National Exercise Referral Scheme will not be able to resume for the time being.

Major Projects and Economic Development Portfolio Holder Carwyn Jones added, “Our leisure centres play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of our community and we are very excited about reopening them. Many residents have greatly missed their usual leisure activities and exercise regimes and will be very pleased to hear that the facilities will be soon be available again. Ensuring everyone's safety is of course our main priority so please check the guidance before you visit and we look forward to welcoming you back very soon.”
