Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn - Isle of Anglesey County Council

Licenced premises must follow new Welsh Government regulations

Posted on 4 December 2020

New restrictions for the hospitality sector come into force at 6pm today (Friday, December 4th) to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus during the festive season.

Anglesey’s Public Protection team has written to all licenced premises to emphasize the importance of following Welsh Government regulations.

Licenced premises play a vital role in helping to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, and must now follow these new rules:

  • Close by 6pm from Friday 4th December.
  • After 6pm they will only be able to provide takeaway services.
  • They will not be allowed to serve alcohol
  • Social distancing between tables (2 metres) should be adhered to at all times
  • Premises will be required to pre-book tables with details of all members of the group
  • There must be a person controlling entry to the premises and allocating a limited time period during which customers may stay in the premises.
  • Limit on groups up to four people (not including any children aged under 11) unless they are from a single household.
  • Face coverings must be worn other than when seated to eat or drink.
  • Table service only.
  • Implement one way systems, where the building allows, and manage outside queues to ensure they do not cause a risk to individuals
  • Thorough and regular cleaning of high contact touch points, toilets, tables etc. in line with a risk assessed cleaning regime
  • Encourage new ways of working, adapting shift patterns and menus to reduce interactivity and number of people working in kitchens at any one time.
  • Taking all reasonable measures to maintain physical distancing in the workplace

Anglesey Council also strongly recommend, that where reasonably practicable, measures are taken to allow as much natural ventilation to flow through their premises to further reduce any risk of transmission e.g. leaving a window open a small amount.

Chief Public Protection Officer, Les Pursglove, explained, “We recognise that this is a hugely difficult time for those in the hospitality industry on Anglesey; but it’s vital that they follow the new regulations introduced by the Welsh Government, which come into force this evening.”

“We’re very pleased with the way licenced premises have responded to the demands placed upon them during the Coronavirus crisis, with the vast majority acting in a responsible manner at all times to keep customers and staff safe.”

He added, “To those who may be tempted to take short cuts or flout these regulations – please don’t. Our officers together with colleagues from North Wales Police will be keeping a close eye on licenced premises in the run up to Christmas.”

“Premises found not following regulations will face enforcement action. Closure notices may be used if needed to keep our communities safe.”
