Another Coronavirus case confirmed in primary school pupil

Posted on 22 September 2020

A young pupil attending Ysgol Gymuned Y Fali has now also tested positive for Coronavirus.

Parents and staff were informed yesterday (Monday, September 21st) and issued with guidance provided by Public Health Wales.

NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect has been informed of the confirmed case and relevant pupils and staff have been told to self-isolate for 14 days; and remain alert for any symptoms of the virus, including:

  • new or continuous cough
  • a high temperature or
  • a loss of or change to sense of smell or taste

Those advised to self-isolated should book a Coronavirus test if they develop any of these symptoms, even if they are mild:

Anglesey’s Chief Executive, Annwen Morgan, said, “We continue to work closely with schools and each one has measures in place to limit the potential spread of virus. These include extra cleaning, separation of classes and promoting good hygiene amongst pupils."

“Yet, we are sadly faced with yet another positive test in a child attending one of our primary schools. Our thoughts are with this child, family and school community.”

She added, “Our main concern remains the wellbeing of our pupils, staff and wider community, and we will continue to monitor the situation here, as well as other affected schools, to see whether any further action is needed.”

Contact tracing is underway and anyone identified as a contact of a confirmed case will receive appropriate advice.

There is currently no evidence to suggest further transmission within the school setting and Ysgol Gymuned Y Fali remains open to unaffected classes.

Information provided to parents and staff has been issued under the instruction of: Test Trace and Protect regional hub on behalf of Public Health Wales Health Protection Team.
