THIS SCHEME SHOULD NOT BE USED IF YOU CAN KEEP YOUR CHILDREN HOME WITH A RESPONSIBLE PARENT OR CARER
All children should be cared for at home if this can be done safely.
This scheme has been provided to respond to the demand for childcare for key workers initially for a period of 3 months, at which time it will be reviewed.
The Welsh Government will fund the costs of pre-school childcare (children aged 0 to 5 years) of key workers, from 1st April 2020, excluding childcare provider retention fees.
Follow the link for a full list of key workers:
The Welsh Government will also continue to fund childcare provision for vulnerable children.
Places in schools and childcare are highly limited. Only particularly vulnerable children and the children of workers whose work is critical to the COVID-19 response should be attending during this time.
Key Workers with older children
Where possible, children of school age should continue to attend school. The Welsh Government will consider funding childcare places for older children in exceptional circumstances and on a case by case basis. Contact school head teachers to arrange:-
ProvisionIf your usual childcare setting is closed, but you need childcare provision as a key worker, you can use another setting if it is registered with CIW. We can fund your childcare costs, other than any retention fees, charged by your childcare providers.
