Tenants are required to give at least 28 days clear notice to terminate their tenancy.
- These 28 clear days must finish at the end of a full rental period. Any tenancy commenced prior to 08/10/2016 will automatically end on a Sunday; however, if your tenancy commenced after 08/10/2016, the rental period will depend on the day on which your tenancy started i.e. if your tenancy started on a Thursday, it will end on a Wednesday. If you require clarification on your expected tenancy termination date, please contact the Customer Services team on 01248 752200.
Note: If you make a mistake when completing the form, we will advise you of the correct termination date in writing.
- The Council must receive the notice 1 clear day in advance of the notice period.
- If it is a joint tenancy, the notice will end the whole of the tenancy even if it is not signed by all of the joint tenants. This means everyone living in the property will have to move out by the termination date.
- If you are prepared to allow prospective new tenants to view the property during the notice period (accompanied by a Housing Officer), you will be entitled to receive high street shopping vouchers to the value of £60 when you hand the keys back at the end of the tenancy. Please note that if you have any housing related debts (rent arrears, rechargeable repairs, court costs), the payment will be offset against them.

How do I register on the online portal?
You will need to use an email address to create a secure account to register with our online portal. You will also need to agree to our terms and conditions, which gives us permission to hold and use your personal information in accordance with our privacy and data protection policies.
Important note: When registering to use the portal for the first time, you will be asked to go to your email account, open the email that we will have just sent you and click on the link to activate your account. You will not be able to login to the My Account portal or use the forms without activating your account from the link in the email. If you don’t think you’ve received an email, please check your Spam folder. We can check and activate the account manually if required, please let us know if this is something you want us to do.
