Isle of Anglesey County Council

Community Toilet Grant Scheme

Would your business be prepared to open your toilet to the public?

If so, you could receive a payment of up to £500 for joining the council’s community toilet scheme.

The Welsh Government’s Community Toilet Grant Scheme needs local authorities and local businesses such as pubs, post offices and shops, to work together to provide cleaner, safer and more accessible toilets for the general public.

How does the Community Toilet Grant Scheme work?

Members of the public can use toilet facilities during the premises opening hours and without the need to make a purchase. Businesses have the right to refuse entry in exceptional circumstances.

Participating premises will be required to keep their toilets safe, clean, accessible and well-stocked.

In return, businesses and organisations will receive up to £500 for taking part.

What are the benefits of participating in the scheme?

  • Good publicity – your facility will be promoted as a community toilet location by the council
  • Your business could potentially benefit from the visits, as more people will be entering the premises and could make a purchase or use your service
  • Approved businesses will receive up to £500 for joining the Community Toilet Scheme

How do I apply?

  • There is no set deadline date for receipt of application forms.
  • However, the grant is awarded on a first come, first served basis.
  • If we reach the full capacity, your details will be added to a waiting list for the following year, subject to available funding.

What happens next?

If your application is successful, the next stage of the application process is a visit from a council officer to view your proposed toilet(s) and to discuss your proposals in more detail. For example, we need to know your opening hours, accessibility to the toilet and so on.

After the visit, a letter will be sent informing you of the outcome of the assessment.

If the assessment is successful, a formal offer of payment will be made by the council with any further agreed terms and conditions attached.
