Changes to your Child Care expenditure

If you are in receipt of Housing Benefit / Council Tax Reduction and have declared Child Care expenditure to us  but due to the current situation are no longer using and paying the provider please can you confirm by email to us the date  of this change. If the hours of child care you pay has also reduced or increased please confirm this by email confirming the date of change.

How to claim Council Tax Reduction

Please be aware that Council Tax Reduction is not included within Universal Credit and needs to be claimed separately from the council. This can be done by following the link from this webpage:

How to claim Housing Benefit

To claim Housing Benefit for assistance towards the rent you must be within a defined criteria. This being: classed as pensionable age, living in supported accommodation as defined for Housing Benefit or receive a Severe Disability Premium.

Our Housing Benefit claim form has filter questions to identify if you are within these groups. If you are not then you will be advised to claim Universal Credit for assistance towards your Housing costs.

If you are no longer working

Please confirm by email to us the date your employment finished and when you expect to receive your last wages. If you have correspondence from your employer confirming this please email this to us.

If your wages has gone down

Please confirm by email to us the date your wages went down, how many hours you will now be working and what your expected pay will be. If you have correspondence from your employer confirming this please email this to us.

If you have started a new job

Please confirm by email to us the date your employment started, the name and address of your employer, your working hours, your hourly pay, pension deductions and your expected wages. If you have evidence of this please forward this to us by email.

If your working hours has increased

If you are working for the same employer and your working hours has increased please confirm the date your hours increased and your hourly pay by email to us.

Changes to your Self-employed earnings

If there has been a change to your earnings please inform us by email stating what your expected income and expenditure will be and for what period you believe this will be the case. If you are continuing to work we will need an estimate of income and itemised expenditure during this period.

If you have advised us that your self-employed income has reduced and do then receive 80% of your income from the Government Self-employment Income Support Scheme it is possible that your claim will have to be re-assessed.

UK Government Job Retention Scheme

If you have advised us that your wages has reduced and do then receive 80% of your wages from this scheme it is possible that your claim will have to be re-assessed.

Documentary evidence to support your claim

We understand that it might not be possible for documentary evidence to verify the details of your claim to be provided. Processes have been changed and the assessment of your claim will not be delayed because of this.

Please note that the documentary evidence will be requested once the travel restrictions are no longer in place and the normal rules for verifying details of claims will return.  DWP guidance states that if any overpayments are calculated due to the details provided on the form not being correct, the overpayment will be recovered and any potential false declarations investigated.
