Isle of Anglesey County Council


There are a number of ways in which you can pay council bills.

Why not make things easier for yourself by paying your council bill by direct debit. It’s the simplest and safest way to pay or use our online payment facility which allows you to make payments directly and securely to the council 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

When making an online payment you will be transferred to the Capita secure payments website. Follow the on-screen instructions. The system for paying on-line is encrypted and fully secure. When the payment details have been completed you will receive a confirmation email.

You can make a number of online payments using any of the following types of credit/debit cards - Visa, Mastercard, Maestro / Switch, Visa Delta, Electron.

Your payment will take up to 3 working days to reach the account to which you are making a payment. (This includes time to verify your credit/debit card details with your credit/debit card supplier and for payment to be notified to the Council.)

Using the online payments facility on this website indicates that you accept these terms. If you do not accept these terms (“terms”) do not use this facility.

  • check that you are sure of the amount you need to pay
  • make sure you have your credit/debit card details available before proceeding

Your transaction is carried out within a secure payment system.

We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which is a standard supported by most major internet browsers. All of your personal and card details are protected using 128 bit encryption when transmitted over the Internet. Your card details are stored on a server behind a secure firewall. Only authorised personnel may access this information.

If you are unable to enter the payments page when you choose one of the payment options, it is possible that your browser doesn’t support 128 bit encryption. You are therefore prevented from making a payment because anything less than 128 is not safe. In these circumstances please ensure that the latest version of your browser is set up on your computer to enable you to make a payment.

If you choose to cancel your payment, you can do this at any time by selecting the “Cancel” button.

This will take you back to the Isle of Anglesey County Council online payments page and all the details you have entered will be deleted.  If you are in a public place we strongly advise you make sure you are not overlooked as you enter your details to prevent them being misused by somebody else.

Cards are not refused by Isle of Anglesey County Council - they are refused by your bank. You should contact your bank directly to discuss the problem.

Any payment(s) made by you after 4pm, will not be credited to your account until up to 3 working days.

Once your card has been validated you will receive confirmation of your payment on your screen. You can print this out as confirmation.

Additionally, if you provide us with an email address, your payment confirmation will be e-mailed to you.

 Other ways of paying

Why not make things easier for yourself by paying your council bill by direct debit. It’s the simplest and safest way to pay and here’s why:

  • You remain in control
  • You have a money back guarantee
  • It’s paid monthly but you only sign one form and your Bank or Building Society does the rest
  • You can forget queues, cheques, stamps
  • It’s a lot safer than paying with cash
  • It’s also cheaper and simpler for the council to administer, which benefits everyone in our community.

If you have a query, you have time to check anything you don’t understand or agree with, and under the rules of the Direct Debit guarantee any payment which breaks the terms of your instruction will be refunded immediately to your account.

So how do I change to Direct Debit?

Simply complete the Direct Debit Instruction form

You can connect to the service by phoning 0300 123 0800 on any touch-tone phone and you will be instructed on how to pay. Please remember to have your credit or debit card ready, along with the reference number of your account or invoice.

Payment may be made by debit card / cash or cheque (payable to Post Office Ltd) at any Post Office. You will require a payment card which is available from the Council.

You can make cash payments at any PayPoint outlet. Contact the Council for a payment card. For your nearest PayPoint locations go to

Cheque by post - cheques should be made payable to ‘Isle of Anglesey County Council’. Please ensure that your Council Tax account number is quoted on the reverse of your cheque. Your cheque should be posted to Isle of Anglesey County Council, PO Box 29, Llangefni, Anglesey, LL77 7ZF

Payment can be made by BACS to the Council’s general bank account number 79118615 at National Westminster Bank, Llangefni branch,sort code 53-81-02. Please ensure that you quote the Council Tax account number when making your payment. Your bank may charge for this service.

Payments can be made at Post Offices using Girobank Transcash to the Council’s Giro account number 400 7123. The Post Office will charge for this service. Please ensure you quote your Non-Domestic Rates account number when making the payment.
