Planning Policy

In 2010 the decision was made to merge the Gwynedd Council Planning Policy Unit and the Isle of Anglesey County Council Planning Policy Unit. The Unit was formally set up in May 2011.

All planning policy enquiries relating to the Isle of Anglesey or Gwynedd Local Planning Authority area should therefore be directed to the Joint Planning Policy Unit.

What do we do?

The Joint Planning Policy Unit is responsible for producing land use planning policies and guidance that are used in deciding planning applications and therefore guide future development in the area.

The current adopted development plans for the Anglesey Local Planning Authority Area is the Gwynedd Structure Plan and the Ynys Môn Local Plan. The Stopped Unitary Development Plan is also used as a material planning consideration. The current adopted development plans are supported by a series of Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPGs). Work is now underway on the Joint Local Development Plan (following the Welsh Government’s acceptance).
