Council Services:

Planning customer service

Our main aim is to use resources effectively to provide a high quality service in a partnership with our customers by being committed to open communication, fairness and improving performance.

The Planning Service has a Customer Charter which is displayed in the reception area and on the Councils website. This Charter outlines our commitments to providing you with a high quality service by concentrating on three areas.

  • Commitment to open communication
  • Commitment to treating people fairly
  • Commitment to improving performance

Ensuring we behave properly

Planning decisions can sometimes involve controversial matters so the county council, and professional bodies, set a number of rules for officers and councillors to follow.

If an officer or a councillor chooses to ignore these rules then they could be in breach of their codes of conduct and disciplined.

Gifts and hospitality

The council has very strict rules regarding gifts and hospitality for councillors and officers. The rules exist to ensure that no questions of unfairness or favour will arise when deciding planning applications. The rules are set out in the council’s constitution.
