Council Services:

Planning Control: Minerals

Anglesey has a diverse range of mineral wealth and development required to exploit mineral resources will usually have to benefit from the grant of prior planning permission.

Existing mineral planning permissions are also subject to a periodic review of their conditions. The Planning Service deals with both mineral planning applications and periodic review submissions. Because of the nature of minerals development and the potential impact on the environment, many applications will be subject to Environmental Impact Assessment.

In addition to dealing with proposals for development and review submissions, the Planning Service regularly monitors all mineral extraction sites. Due to the long term nature of the minerals development, regular monitoring is an essential function to ensure that all development is undertaken within the constraints of the relevant planning permission and that potential environmental impacts are controlled.

The service also contributes to the formulation of minerals planning policy on both a regional and local basis.
