Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn - Isle of Anglesey County Council

Young people leaving care

The Care Leavers Act recognises that all young people need support to help them on their way in life, and that includes people in care.  Whatever you want to do after leaving care, the council can offer you help and support to achieve your aims in life.

Getting what you what you want out of life is all about making choices that are right for you. You may have an idea of what sort of job or career appeals to you.
So, over the next few years you’ll need to make choices about things like:
  • going to college
  • leaving school
  • somewhere to live
  • registering with a doctor
You’ll also have hopes and ambitions you want to make a reality in the future such as:
  • learning to drive
  • gaining qualifications
  • finding a job and earning money
  • having your own home
Soon after your 15th birthday you will meet your After-Care Worker. He or she will be a member of the Children and Families Team in Social Services. Your After-Care Worker will listen to what you have to say and be your official connection to whatever help and support you need to make choices about your future.
You can ask someone else to be your advisor, but whoever is appointed will encourage you to continue getting support from other friends and adults you know.
For further information you can talk to your social worker, foster carer, the Social Services After Care Team or call one of the Teulu Môn officers on 01248 725 888.
