Council Services:

Anglesey business week's back, bigger and ready to inspire young people

The 2011 Anglesey Business Week will take place between September 19 - 23 giving businesses the opportunity to take part in a whole host of workshops and seminars.

This year’s theme will be securing jobs for the Island’s young people.

This year’s event follows the success of last year’s inaugural Business Week, which saw representatives from some 600 businesses attending the various event.

Business Week Coordinator, Yvonne Owen, explained, “Encouraged by the support of the business community last year, we’re back again this September and Anglesey Business Week will be bigger and better than ever this time. We’re currently putting together a varied programme which will hopefully have something to suit everyone.”

Amongst the planned events are a ‘how to tender’ workshop, a marketing masterclass, advice on funding and grants, an event for women in business and a specialist evening to offer advice on adding value in the agriculture sector. There will also be events on marine science, tourism and the Energy Island programme. The final schedule for the week will be announced later this summer.

Commissioner with responsibility for economic development, Alex Aldridge, is encouraging all local businesses to put the event in their diary. He added, “Businesses need to be innovative and resourceful in order to stay competitive in this tough economic climate. Bringing young people, with fresh ideas and new skills into the workplace, is very important. It’s essential that young people see a future for themselves on the island.”

Councillor Bryan Owen, Leader of the Isle of Anglesey Council added, “As a local businessman myself, I fully support Anglesey Business Week. Creating the conditions for businesses to grow and flourish is essential in creating a sustainable economy, and is an important way of securing jobs for the island’s young people. I look forward to discussing this further with the business community and hearing young people’s thoughts on their future in business during Anglesey Business Week.”
