What is the scheme?
Anglesey’s Healthy Schools Scheme supports the island’s schools to contribute positively towards the health and welfare of their pupils, teachers and the wider community by developing an environment that promotes health.
Background to the scheme
The idea of health promotion in schools was developed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) at the beginning of the 1990s.
The aims
The aims of the healthy schools scheme are listed below.
What do schools have to do?
Schools must complete aim one during the first year but are then free to choose any of the other aims. It is recommended that schools select aims that compliment their scheme of work. In this way the scheme becomes an integral part of their daily life.
Application form: healthy schools scheme
All healthy schools develop action plans in the nine areas over a period of 3 years. To assist the steering group to choose the order in which schools are taken on we would be grateful if you could note on the form provided below what activities are already taking place in your school.
