If you are looking for local information and are having difficulty obtaining the answers, we are here to help and direct you to sources that may be of assistance.

Over recent years there has been a real growth in the interest shown in "local" matters, whether it be for school or college work or general interest. A number of subject areas fall into the category of "local studies" including social, economic, cultural and linguistic matters.

The main collection is located at Llangefni Library, a smaller collection at Holyhead Library and small collections at other libraries on the island. Copies of some printed books may be borrowed if there is an adequate supply.

What kind of resources are available?

  • pamphlets and leaflets
  • annual reports of various organisations
  • county council minutes
  • reports by various departments of the county council
  • electoral lists (1945 onwards - incomplete)
  • statistics eg population, unemployment and number of Welsh speakers
  • local newspapers (1950s onwards)
  • papurau bro
  • serials
  • newspaper cuttings
  • maps of different periods including Ordnance Survey maps  
  • slides
  • commercial records, tapes and videos
