Comedian Mark Steel on Holyhead

Mark Steel’s stand-up comedy performance about Holyhead will be broadcast on radio later this month.

The award-winning series ‘Mark Steel’s in Town’, features stand-up shows that celebrate a town’s unique identity and distinctiveness.

Mark visited Holyhead in September and performed a one and a half hour show at the Ucheldre Centre.

Over 170 people attended the free performance, where Mark commented on his observations of the town.

The show was supported by the Holyhead Brand project which is 75% funded by the EU Interreg fund and match funded by Welsh Government, Isle of Anglesey County Council and Holyhead Town Council. The project aims to make Holyhead into an attractive and distinctive destination.

There was a lot of passion from the audience during the evening with laughs plentiful.

Holyhead Mayor, Councillor Jeff Evans, who attended the performance, “It was an excellent night where people had the opportunity to listen to a comedian’s abstract view of Holyhead. It was a fun night and I enjoyed meeting Mark.”

After his recent visit to Holyhead, Mark Steel, added, “It’s an amazing town. I really enjoyed my visit.”

To listen to the performance, tune in to BBC Radio 4 at 6.30pm on the 13th December, 2011.
