Rural Development Plan (RDP)
The Rural Development Plan (RDP) for Wales 2007 – 2013 was formally approved by the European Commission’s Rural Development Committee on 20 February, 2008. It is part of a joint Welsh Government and European Union strategy.
On Anglesey, RDP funding is targeted to develop the capacity of rural communities, ensure individuals have access to enterprising opportunities and to develop and market a positive image for Anglesey, this will also focus on encouraging young people to return to the island.
Working in partnership with public, private and voluntary sectors is essential for effective delivery of the Rural Development Plan’s aims and objectives to create a welcoming image of Anglesey to increase economic regeneration and improve quality of life.
The RDP has four main Axis, each Axis focuses on different aspect of rural development, they are;
Axis 1 – is focused on increasing competitiveness in the rural economy, especially in farming and forestry
Axis 2 – focuses on conserving the landscape and environment for the benefit of everybody
Axis 3 – aims to improve everyday life and diversify the rural economy
Axis 4 – (LEADER) is about helping local people to develop their own communities.
