Small Business Rate Relief

Rates relief for small businesses in Wales will be extended between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018.

The thresholds for small business rate relief in Wales has been extended until 31 March 2018, when a new permanent scheme will take effect from 2018. Currently, there are no details available on the scheme.

Under the current plan, a business premises with a rateable value up to £6,000 will receive 100% relief and those with a rateable value between £ 6,001 and £ 12,000 will receive relief ranging from 100% and nil. The following types of businesses continue to rate relief as follows: -

  • A property with a rateable value between £10,501 and £11,000 receive a 25% retail relief - the rest will be discharged as mentioned above
  • Post offices are relieved of 100% or 50%
  • A registered childcare practitioner with a rateable value of between £ 9,001 and £12,000 will receive 50% relief
