Council Services:

What do I need to do to comply with the ban?

If you are involved in the day to day running of a business (e.g. the business proprietor, manager, designated premises supervisor), it is your responsibility to ensure compliance with the legislation.

Specific matters that you must do address include:

  • displaying no-smoking notices (as specified in the legislation) so that they are clearly visible to all employees, customers and visitors while they are in the premises
  • developing and implementing a smoke-free policy
  • removing all ashtrays from premises
  • informing anyone smoking that he/she is committing an offence
  • requesting that anyone smoking extinguish their smoking material immediately or leave
  • refusing service if a customer or member of staff continues to smoke in public

Guidance specific to your business is available by contacting Anglesey County Council by phone, fax, e-mail, in person or in writing.

Further guidance, copies of signage and frequently asked questions are available on the Welsh Assembly Government Smoking Ban Website
