Thinking of setting up a food business?

If you are thinking of setting up a food business, there is a large amount of planning to do first.

As well as making sure that your food premises is constructed properly, with good design, layout and hygiene, you need to make sure that you and your staff are trained and that you have proper systems in place to ensure that the food you sell is safe and of good quality - this applies whatever type of food business you run.

The Food Standards Agency has produced the following guides:

  • Starting up: Your First Steps to Running a Catering Business
  • Food Hygiene Guide for Businesses

PDF copies of these guides are attached at the top of this page.

Registering your new business

You will need to register your food business with the council. You can download a PDF copy of the registration form on this page.
