Day 4: Don’t support IP (Intellectual Property) crime!

During the Christmas period the pressure is on to get the must have gifts often on tight budgets. Don’t be fooled, if you see an offer for that must have product for an unbelievable price…STOP….if it sounds too good to be true… it’s probably counterfeit!

Remember that counterfeit goods are not the bargain they seem, you are just paying for a logo on a cheap inferior product and helping fund criminal gangs. Counterfeits are cheaper, but they are of a lesser quality, do not last as long and look shabby quickly. Many items can be dangerous and prone to overheating having not been through relevant safety tests.

What about the latest streaming gadgets - IPTV boxes are legal, as long as you use them to stream free content. … When an IPTV box is altered to view copyrighted/subscription material for free, it is generally referred to as a ‘fully-loaded’ box. It is illegal to make, sell or use these boxes and the punishment could be up to ten years in prison.

How you can help:-

  1. Report suspected counterfeit items to Trading Standards
  2. Want a genuine stockists of major brands visit
  3. Remember if it looks too good to be true – it’s probably counterfeit!
