Council Services:

Day 1: Online shopping

Most of us now buy our Christmas presents on the internet, but it’s important to spend a bit of time checking out the website before you buy. Some fake websites can look exactly like the real ones, and often pay to appear at the top of the search results. Many websites offer bargain price products or items that are out of stock elsewhere, but in reality they don’t have the product at all, or they turn out to be fake or unsafe.

When you buy goods online you have have a right to return them up to 14 days from the day you receive the goods. This is because your decision may be based on a brief description or a photograph – so what you receive isn’t always quite what you’d expected. So it’s best to check that you’re happy with the goods before you wrap them and put them under the tree – after the 14 days are up you will only be able to return them if they are faulty!
