Council Services:

Fair Processing Notice - Council Tax

The information that you provide will be processed in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1988.

This Council has a duty to protect the public funds it administers. The Council may share your personal data provided for Council Tax purposes internally to provide other statutory services but this will only happen on a strictly controlled and regulated basis. The Council may also use it to check proof of residence. The Council may pass the information to other agencies or organisations, such as the Department for Work and Pensions, HM Revenues and Customs and Rent Smart Wales, as allowed by law. The Council may check or match the information you have provided, or information about you that someone else has provided, with other information held by us as a Council, such as Electoral Registration Services or Blue Badge Register.

The Council may also get information or match information about you with certain third parties, or give them information to:

  • Prevent or detect crime
  • Prevent or detect fraud
  • Protect public funds
  • Make sure the information is correct

These third parties include government departments (including the National Fraud Initiative), local authorities, police authorities and private sector companies, including companies that assist us in fraud detection and prevention such as Credit Reference Agencies or companies that assist us in any of the Council’s statutory enforcement duties such as Enforcement Agents (commonly called bailiffs).

The Council will not give information about you to anyone else or use information about you for other purposes, unless the law allows us to.

The Council wishes to provide appropriate, timely and efficient services. To achieve this, the Council wishes to better co-ordinate what we do for you. The Council is introducing a Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) to record a brief summary of your contact with the Council and will use basic Council Tax information (name and address) to enable this to be effective.

The re-use of Council Tax data is carried out with statutory authority under powers in s.1 of the Localism Act 2011 and the Council does not require the consent of individuals concerned under the Data Protection Act 1998.
