Council tax enquiries

Last year I was paying via Direct Debit, does this carry on for 2017/18?

Answer:-

If it says at the bottom of your bill “this sum is paid by direct debit”, then the payments will be made automatically on the dates and for the sums noted as your installments.

How can I set up a Direct Debit?

Answer:-

For Council Tax you can do this over the phone on 01248 752653, or complete the form that came with your bill. For Non-Domestic Rates you should complete the Direct Debit form that came with your bill, or phone the above number to request an application form.

Why has the Rateable Value increased?

Answer:-

The District Valuer reviews the rateable value of business properties every five years. You should refer any queries regarding your rateable value to the District Valuer at www.voa.gov.uk or through e mail to : ratingwales@voa.gsi.gov.uk

It says that there’s a balance for 2016/17 on the bottom of the bill.

Answer:-

This balance remained as was the situation on 8 March, 2017. If you pay by Direct Debit after this date, then this has not been taken into account in the figure above.

If you dont’ pay by Direct Debit and wish to merge this sum with the 2017/18 Council Tax, you should contact us at once.

How do I get a card to pay in the Post Office?

Answer:-

On your bill there is a bar code – you should take your bill with you to the post Office or any Paypoint location. You don’t need a swipe card.

The bill shows 10 installments. Is it possible to change this to 12 installments?

Answer:-

You should contact the office on 01248 752653.

The bill is very high, is there help available towards it?

Answer:-

You may be eligible for help towards your Council Tax. You should contact the Council Tax Reduction Scheme Office on 01248 752226 or 01248 752658.

There is an additional premium of Council Tax on the bill. Why?

Answer:-

From 1 April, 2017, the Council has decided to charge a premium on long term empty houses and homes that are furnished but unoccupied. E.g. holiday homes. There are a number of exemptions from the premium and you should contact the revenue office on 01248 752653 or visit the Council’s website on www.anglesey.gov.uk.

How can I appeal against charging the premium?

Answer:-

You should contact the Council’s Revenue Office, either through the post at:
