Council Services:

Benefits

Find information about benefits, making a benefit claim and calculate your benefit entitlement.

The council can help you with two types of benefit - Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. Anyone on a low income who pays rent or council tax can claim these benefits, including pensioners sick or unemployed people and single parents. You may also qualify for assistance even if you work and your income is below a certain level.

We can also help you with the school clothing grant and vouchers and free school meals.

You can make an online claim for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit using our interactive form. The form will help and guide you as you work through it to ensure that you only fill in the parts that are relevant to your claim.

The rules surrounding housing and council tax benefits are quite complicated so it is always advisable to contact us if you are in doubt over any aspect of your application or the benefits service in general.
